The Illinois CCL is recognized in 30 states. These include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
You must be 21 years of age, possess a valid FOID (Firearms Owner Identification) card, and complete 16 hours of approved Illinois State Police outlined curriculum offered by an approved Instructor. (Unless prior training credit is applied) You must submit a Concealed Carry Application via the Illinois State Police Website. Fingerprints may be obtained through an Illinois State Police authorized vendor and submitted, but that process is optional. JS Concealed Carry does not offer fingerprinting services.
Applicant cannot have any active warrants, any felonies in the last five years, any DUI in the last five years, and any mental health treatment.
There are four (4) credit hours applied if you have the Illinois Hunter Safety Course, Utah Conceal Carry Permit, Florida CCW Permit, Nevada CCW Permit, Missouri CCW Permit, Kentucky CCW Permit, Michigan CPL, and Chicago Firearms Permit.
There are eight (8) credit hours applied if you have taken NRA Basic Pistol, NRA Personal Protection in the Home, NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home, or have been Active, retired, or Honorably Discharged member of the US Armed Forces. (DD-214 form) Previously qualified law enforcement or corrections officer. (430 ILCS 66/75 (j))
You may use your Illinois Conceal Carry Certificate to apply for non-resident permits in Florida and Arizona.
There are a variety of guides and handouts that will be available during class and online. There is also completion paperwork that will be handed out at the end of class.
Please make sure you wear closed toe footwear, long sleeve tops are recommended, pants are also recommended. Hats with a brim are also highly recommended. Shorts, open toe footwear, and short sleeves are not recommended. You will need eye protection, hearing protection, a weapon, and 30 rounds of ammunition.
You can bring an open mind, a notepad, a pen, and a sack lunch for the 8 hour days.
